FLYING PENGUIN'S
QUAKE, QUAKE 2 & QUAKE 3 FRAMERATE COMPARISONS

I have compiled the results of timedemo tests performed on a variety of systems, with both Voodoo and Voodoo2 3D cards, in both GLQuake, Quake2 and Quake3. Please use this as a guide, only, to compare your performance to equivalent systems, or to see what kind of performance you can expect by upgrading your system.

Unlike some people who post framerate comparisons, I'm not trying to impress you with how fast some people can tweak their system, or how fast my computer is. The systems tested cover a wide variety from a low-end P-90 on up to the latest Pentium III speed demon. I have performed many of these tests myself. Others were performed under my supervision or by people who's integrity I trust. All the tests were performed using the same test criteria and I have provided links so that you can download the very same config files I used to run these tests so that you can compare your system under the same settings.

USE THESE TEST RESULTS ONLY AS A GUIDE! Please be aware that frame-rate tests are not very precise. It's not unusual for two systems with identical processors and 3D cards to have scores that differ by as much as 8 fps due to differences in motherboard design, BIOS settings, design of the secondary cache algorithm, etc. There are many variables involved! Even the very same system can test differently on two different days depending on the temperature inside the case (the 3D card's processors, and even your CPU, are sensitive to temperature changes - one good reason to invest in a cooling fan for your 3D card). Don't e-mail me pissing and moaning that your P-200 gets 5 fps less than the one tested here, and you want to know how to fix it - DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY! Again, use these test results only as a guide. Your mileage may (will!) vary.
